On the north side of the city lies North Head, one of the gateways to Sydney Harbour. You can take the ferry to Manly and bus/taxi up the hill, or drive. It's a beautiful spot. I know. I used to live up there in one of the two isolated houses on the headland.

A walk from Manly to Shelly Beach is a relaxing stroll along the water. Snorkelling is wonderful at Shelly Beach and if you're a beachgoer, it's the perfect place to be.

My favourite building in the city (apart from the Opera House of course): The Queen Victoria Building. There's so much history here, including a secret hidden behind glass. Can you find it?

The bird life in Australia abounds. In the Royal Botanic Gardens you can see galahs, ibis, cockatoos, rainbow lorikeets, and even a kookaburra or two. We call this lorikeet "Ernie". He always comes out to say hi when we're there.

You can see the inside of the Opera House with a tour, or with a free community event called 'Singing in the House.' We sang Christmas Carols in the house - it was fabulous!

For a great place for brunch or an afternoon bite, head to the café at the Modern Contemporary Art. The views alone are spectacular. The art isn't bad either!

Want to know how to find views like this? Take a Captain Cook Cruise to Shark Island. It's my new favourite lookout of Sydney. Alternatively, Bradley's Head near Taronga Zoo provides great views too.

Shark Island. Watch ships, ferries, seaplanes navigate the harbour. If you are lucky, perhaps a pod of dolphins will saunter by.
