19 Travel Apps You Need to Travel on a Budget

We travel a lot.  Over the years, we’ve learned what works (and what doesn’t!). Nowadays you won’t see us travelling without our iPhones, loaded with everything we need (and backed up, of course).
So, what are the apps we find indispensable when we travel?  We went through our iPhones and decided these are our ‘must have’ apps we use and love, no matter how far or how long we roam…
** Granted, not all of these are budget related, but they’ve either provided great information, great entertainment…or prevented us from spending unnecessarily in SOME way.

Trail Wallet

Simon Fairbairn
We are Simon Fairbairn and Erin McNeaney of Never Ending Voyage, a couple who’ve been travelling full time since March 2010. Managing our finances is what has enabled us to have so many wonderful experiences but, after 3 years on the road, we needed something better than scribbled notes, loose receipts, and complicated spreadsheets to track our expenses.
So we built Trail Wallet.
Nobody wants to worry about money while travelling, but we all do. Tracking your finances is a simple way to get some freedom from this financial anxiety.
Instead of just hoping you’ve got enough money, know.

Glad you found it useful Mike! Indeed we have come along way. There are certain apps I find I can’t live without when I travel now. Trail Wallet is one of them. LOVE LOVE LOVE it. It’s how we’re tracking our expenses now we’re travelling full time. As a photographer I do share some of my own photos on Trover, but I use it more to be inspired with the places we’ve yet to explore. For that, I use it a lot.

    I hope that helps!

Thanks for such an extensive list on Travel Apps.

We really have come a long way and technology is helping us travel more and more easily everyday.

I have used quite a few of the Apps you mentioned but am curious about Trail Wallet and Trover since I am an avid photographer and this can be of help.

How has your experience using them been?

    Glad to hear it Agness!

I have been using airline apps more over the last few years. You’re right, lots of good informtion. The check-in/boarding pass option is worth it’s weight in gold. I hate carrying boarding passes. They end up crumpled by the time I get to the plane!

  5. February 15, 2017 / 12:05 pm

TripAdvisor, pinterest, and google translate make my travel life so much easier. I always like to download the app of the airline I’ll be flying. Lots of good information on those apps usually, and you can check-in and store boarding passes. Although it’s not an app, I also like to travel with a mobile hotspot. Unlimited connectivity with no extra data charges.

Glad you found it a good post Shachar. Love scrabble too. It’s my escape from insanity!

I haven’t heard of Pashadelic. I’ll check it out, thanks! I hope you like Trover. It’s an awesome app for inspiring travels and finding some off the wall/beaten track kind of places (which we love!).

I’d say add this app called Pashadelic. It gives photographers good spots to take photos when they travel. I found out about it in the summer, but I don’t travel as much to really use it. For the people that do travel though, I recommend it. Thanks for this post, I never heard of Trover before. Now I’ll check it out.

Google Translate is a lifesaver! I can’t count the amount of times I’ve pushed my phone into peoples faces asking ‘where is the bathroom?’
Also XE Currency Converter is amazing and works offline!
